The Southwest Ecumnical Mission (SWEM) ministry comprises cooperating congregations and other community organizations, serving people in need in Southwest Rochester/Monroe County since 1972. Providing emergency food through a telephone call-line staffed by an office manager and volunteers who listen to problems, assist with referral to Monroe County Social Services and private agencies, and provide food until longer-range help can be orchestrated. Donated groceries and monetary gifts are also collected during the third weekend of the month at the Saturday and Sunday masses. In December, Christmas dinner baskets for families in need are also collected every year.
