Emmanuel Church of the Deaf

Previously known as St. Mary's Church for the Deaf, St. Francis de Sales Deaf Group, and simply "the Deaf Church," Emmanuel Church of the Deaf has a long history in Rochester. There were priests who worked with the Deaf Catholic Community before Rochester was even a diocese. Today, we are a parish OF and FOR the Deaf Catholic Community. Deaf people come from all over Monroe County to worship together and to celebrate the presence of Jesus Christ in our own unique culture and language. In fact, a family as far away as Scranton refers to Emmanuel as their "home church."

Today, we are located in the lively, vibrant 19th Ward of Rochester and collaborating with other non-deaf parishes in the area; Bulls Head, Cornhill, University of Rochester, and the 19th Ward Catholic Community. Our biggest challenge is to continue to reach out to the Deaf Community and at the same time bringing the gifts of the Deaf Catholic Community to the larger church.
